Health Care is Not a Right

Posted on Monday 03 August @ 13:29:00
Politics When HillaryCare was first spawned, rational minds began to search for a rebuttal that would strike at the heart of why this was such an un-American ideal. Philosopher Leonard Peikoff articulated the root problem in a 1993 speech, and it applies equally to Obama’s so-called reforms.

Peikoff argued that "all legitimate rights have one thing in common: they are rights to action, not to rewards from other people. The American rights [to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness] impose no obligations on other people, merely the negative obligation to leave you alone." Peikoff properly identifies the poisoned tree from which Obama's rotten fruit falls.

Put simply, no person has a right to demand from another the product of their own efforts and intellect. This is what separates America from other collectivist forms of government—at least for the time being. As Peikoff so eloquently concludes in his talk, "...the very fact that [we] need these services so desperately is the proof that [each of us] had better respect the freedom, the integrity, and the rights of the people who provide them.”
