In a fascinating update to the technology that provides much of the controversy behind the Google Print campaign, The Open Library project demonstrates that archival-quality first editions need not be handled to be enjoyed. The Open Library premise is one that is supported by The Million Books Project founded by Carnegie Mellon University and the National Science Foundation. This is a genuinely fascinating development in the world of online research and the general enjoyment of rare and scarce books.
