Film Review: A.I. directed by Steven Spielberg

Posted on Sunday 18 August @ 10:10:28
Books Every week (or thereabout) HGLEE.COM will review a book or film. Each work will have a brief review and a quick link to Amazon, should you decide to pick up a copy for yourself. This week's selection: Steven Spielberg's production of A.I, starring Haley Joel Osment.

Campy and largely unredeeming look at the question of humanity...namely, what it is, precisely, that makes us human. True to form, Speilberg transforms what could be a compelling story (in more capable hands) into a trite Hollywood bromide filled with religious allegory and mawkish, fairy-tale nonsense. His clear talent for the mechanics of movie-making, however, shines as the special effects are remarkable, and Osment (who now, apparently, sees future dead people also) holds his own in what must have been a difficult character for someone his age. A solid "C" grade.
