There Oughta Be a Law ...
Posted by hglee on: Friday 09 April @ 12:29:07 (read: 111 times)
Law It is always a pleasure to find someone who wields the satirical pen artfully. Satire indeed may be one of our few remaining refuges from political correctness. In few other fora could you find the grit and tongue-in-cheek aspects of a recent article by Shannen W. Coffin, an attorney with a unique history of working inside government while at the same time resenting its encroachments into our daily lives.

Dean Wormer would be proud...

Philosophy Readers of this blog have noted that the editor is no fan of Cynthia McKinney. However, the taxpayers of 4th District of Georgia may have witnessed a new low in their Congressional "representative" Hank Johnson. It seems we've replaced one fearless feckless leader for another...this one seeming to strive for the 2010 "acerebral" award. Johnson's inanity came into full, recorded view during a House Armed Services Committee meeting in late March.

Civil Disobedience & Tea Partiers
Posted by hglee on: Thursday 08 April @ 15:33:28 (read: 126 times)
Politics Ayn Rand once wrote that "mass civil disobedience is appropriate only as a prelude to civil war—as the declaration of a total break with a country’s political institutions." It's hard to imagine a time in this writer's life where the temptation has been stronger to go on strike. As tax day nears--and with it the realization that nearly half of American households pay nothing for their citizenship, images such as the one below strike a particular chord with the individualist in me.

Trillions and Trillions of Dollars and a perfect (failure) record...
Posted by hglee on: Monday 09 November @ 15:58:20 (read: 173 times)
Politics An open letter to all 535 voting members of the United States Congress: Are you serious? From the Postal Service to AmTrak to Social Security to Cash for Clunkers...not one solvent venture in nearly 250 years of trying. Please...please...please! Stop helping us!

GloBULL Warming

Philosophy Most rational adults take the advice and warnings coming from sources of authority fairly seriously. However, as Tom Robbins once quipped, "for authority to be respected it must first be respectable." The current administration--aided in no small part by the facts-be-damned perspective of Al Gore--continues to beat this off-key drum with rather staggering disregard for the truth or the objective science of the claims advanced. This sort of thing would be downright silly, were it not for the shocking price tag associated with the new tax obligation reaching us all (in the form of Cap & Trade).

Health Care is Not a Right
Posted by hglee on: Monday 03 August @ 13:29:00 (read: 232 times)
Politics When HillaryCare was first spawned, rational minds began to search for a rebuttal that would strike at the heart of why this was such an un-American ideal. Philosopher Leonard Peikoff articulated the root problem in a 1993 speech, and it applies equally to Obama’s so-called reforms.
